The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy (hymns, responses, etc.), by looking alert and sitting or standing at the appropriate times.
Joining the Group
The requirement to join this group is that you must be a practicing Catholic in 5th grade or above. Boys and girls are both openly accepted to participate in this ministry. All new altar servers are trained by the coordinators of the group. They are then added to the schedule.
Time Commitment
You fill out a questionnaire that includes which mass you would like to serve at and if you would like to serve for funerals and/or weddings. Once trained, you will be added to the schedule and paired with an experienced server. You are usually on the schedule about once a month, depending on how many servers are on the list. If you are unable to make it to your scheduled mass, you are responsible for getting a substitute to cover your spot. Please do not call Leslie for a sub, it is the responsibility of the server to find a replacement. Please do find a replacement, do not leave Father Harris short-handed.
Meetings
The group meets once a year in the church, for an hour.
