The River Falls Community MLK Jr. Holiday Breakfast and program celebrates the legacy of service of Dr. King and creates a springboard for looking past our individual needs to those of our neighbors.  Youth demonstrating this in our community will be highlighted at our event again this year:

MLK Jr. Emerging Legend Award:  Nominate a Youth who exemplifies service to others in our River Falls community!

A youth will be selected and recognized at our MLK Jr. Breakfast who has been an example of service to others in our community.  NOMINATE A YOUTH EMERGING LEGEND BY January 4, 2012 (postmarked U.S. Mail) or by email by January 9, 2012.  Nomination information and Nomination Form is available by clicking this link.  The selected Youth Emerging Legend and up to two family members will receive tickets to the event and recognition at the event.  Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the MLK Jr. Planning Committee.  For questions, contact Don Richards at 715-425-7467 or donrich3833@comcast.net.

Youth Poetry Contest: Encourage a Young Poet to submit a poem!

Youth Poetry written for this event is being requested.  The poems should be reflective of this year’s theme and quote:

Building Peace and Unity Within the Global Community, and

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”  Martin Luther King Jr.

At least two youth poems selected will be read at the event, published in the program, and the youth and up to two family members will receive tickets to the event.  Deadline is January 11, 2012.  Poetry will then be reviewed and selected by the MLK Planning Committee.  Please submit poetry electronically in the form you would like to see it printed to: donrich3833@comcast.net and kathy.scott@sbwireless.net. DEscription of this Event

Background.  This is the 5th year for the River Falls Community Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast!  A special thanks to the generosity of St. Bridget Catholic Church for hosting this event at no cost for us again this year.  The River Falls breakfast is held in conjunction with the main Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Breakfast that is celebrating its 22nd year and is sponsored by the General Mills Foundation and the United Negro College Fund.  Over the years, the main breakfast has grown from a relatively small gathering, to seating approximately 2000 people at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  This event grew through organizational efforts of the St Paul Area Council of Churches by coordinating six community breakfasts in the Twin Cities area, one of which is at River Falls WI.

The River Falls Community Breakfast is held in conjunction with the main twin cities event at the Minneapolis Convention Center, which is proudly sponsored by General Mills Foundation, the United Negro College Fund and the St Paul Area Council of Churches.  Information about the main event and other community breakfasts can be found at the main website: www.mlkbreakfast.com; www.spacc.org
